Study on determination of the cooling flow friction factors

  • 1. Center for Development of Research Reactor Technology (Indonesia)

Description

Comparison of the various friction factor correlations has been carried out, these empirical correlations most used to calculate the pressure drop of fluid flow or a cooling flows. This study is done because the cooling system analysis is always used friction factor term as well as explicit and implicit form respectively. Determination of friction factor affect the pressure drop calculation, therefore many correlations taken from the references. Smooth surface and turbulence flow is chosen in the Reynolds number range of 3,000 to 100,000. Significant different results occur at about Reynolds Number of 3,000 to 40,000, there is the deviation of 2.49% to 3.64%. It so happening more than 40,000, the deviation less then 1.85%. In higher turbulence, effect of friction factor deviation to the pressure drop will be decrease. A far deviation is occur between the Cole brook and Chen correlation respectively
