In vivo nuclear activation analysis

  • 1. Univ. of Rome 'Tor Vergata' (Italy). Dept. of Internal Medicine

Description

Five principal techniques of in vitro nuclear activation analysis (IVNAA) are discussed: the method of induced radioactivity, of prompt capture gamma rays, of inelastic scattering of neutrons, of nuclear resonance scattering and the photoneutron method. Flux distributions in the body are considered for fast neutron irradiations. A survey is given of the neutron sources for IVNAA. The use of pulsed beams is discussed. Detection facilities are described and some applications of IVNAA are commented. 225 refs.; 77 figs.; 11 tabs
