Radiation effects in the superconductor Nb3Sn

Description
The influence of fast neutron radiation on the transition temperature Tsub(c), upper critical field Hsub(c2), and structural peculiarities of Nb3Sn is investigated. For heavily irradiated samples (doses higher than 1 x 1019 cm-2) drastically reduced values for Tsub(c), Hsub(c2), and degree of long-range order are observed. The appearance of thermal neutron small-angle diffuse scattering and the sharp increase of the transition breadth in irradiated samples show the creation of disordered phase microregions during irradiation.
