High-temperature reactor technology and nuclear high-temperature technology for the production of liquid fuels, hydrogen, and electricity
Creators
Description
The development of high-temperature reactor technology began simultaneously in the Peach Bottom HTGR (USA), the OECD-Dragon reactor (United Kingdom), and the AVR (Juelich Nuclear Research Center, Germany) in the 1950s. While the plants in the United States and in Britain were designed for prismatic fuel elements, the AVR was built for spherical fuel. Otherwise, technologies were very similar. These are the basic concepts underlying the AVR technology. (orig.)
