Calculation of M-shell spectra in hot plasmas using the Lanczos algorithm

  • 1. Lawrence Livermore National Lab., CA (United States)

Description

The authors use the algorithm developed by Lanczos to compute photoabsorption by large spectral arrays in hot plasmas. The basis set upon which the Lanczos algorithm rests is given by the self-consistent open-quotes average atomclose quotes (AA) wave functions of the plasma ions. The algorithm utilizes the second quantization formalism, which requires the computation of all the relevant Slater integrals and integrals of one-particle operators. The authors apply the method for argon plasma of temperature kT = 8.8 eV and of density 1.6x10-2g/cc, a condition which is attainable by shock compression. Details of the theory and computational results will be presented
