Description

In order to define an optimum design for an electromagnetic calorimeter for muon spectroscopy (300 GeV - 30 TeV) under construction at I.A.P. Bucharest, Monte-Carlo simulations of the muon interaction in different passive layers (Pb absorber and Fe support) and active layers (scintillator) of 1 m2 area and different thickness (1 cm - 10 cm) have been performed using the GEANT code. Among the quantities investigated there were: the energy loss (deposit) and the energy degradation of the muons in calorimeter layers, the energy distribution of secondaries (e+e- pairs, Bremsstrahlung quanta) produced in the electromagnetic showers, the lateral distributions and the multiplicity development of the secondaries in various layers.
