The anisotropy of cosmic rays below 1018 eV

Description

A detailed study has been made of the manner in which the anisotropy of cosmic rays varies with energy from the lowest energy at which measurements have significance, approximately 1012 eV, to 1018 eV, above which details were published previously. A consistent model is put forward in which local streaming of cosmic-ray particles occurs up to 1014 eV followed by the influence of primary γ rays up to several times 1016 eV. At still higher energies, particles again dominate the anisotropy and a concentration in the Galactic plane, modulated by the local magnetic field, is indicated. (author)
