Description
A new concept of axially heterogeneous high conversion light water reactor (HCLWR) is proposed to achieve both high conversion and high burnup, while maintaining a negative void reactivity coefficient. Core burnup analyses are made to evaluate the reactor physics characteristics of such a HCLWR using mixed oxide (MOX) plutonium-fueled core. As an extension, the applicability of this concept to Th/233U fueled system is also investigated. High burnup performances are achievable for the both systems without any major problem by employing the axially heterogeneous core
