San Diego Gas ampersand Electric has been through tough times including the high fuel-cost era of the early '80s, which contributed to high rates, and a two-and-one-half-year merger attempt with Southern California Edison Co., recently rejected by the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) - but has emerged a strong and vital company, tested and ready for the challenges of the future.
