Atomic diffusion of Li in the amorphous alloy Pd-Si

Description

The atomic diffusion coefficient in an amorphous alloy below the softening point Tg was studied by diffusion of a small atom, lithium, in the amorphous alloy Pd80Si20. The experimental method used must allow for the thinness of the samples, the nature of the diffusing element and the temperature range consistent with the existence of the amorphous state (use of the reaction 6Li(n,α)). The results obtained show that the Li diffusion coefficient is 100 times higher in the amorphous alloy than in the crystalline alloy at the same temperature, though its order of magnitude is still characteristic of a solid state diffusion

Abstract (French)

On a etudie le coefficient de diffusion atomique dans un alliage a l'etat amorphe en dessous du point de ramollissement Tg, en faisant diffuser un petit atome, le lithium, dans l'alliage amorphe Pd80Si20. La methode experimentale utilisee doit tenir compte d'une part de la faible epaisseur des echantillons, de la nature de l'element diffusant et du domaine de temperature compatible avec l'existence de l'etat amorphe (utilisation de la reaction 6Li(n,α)). Les resultats obtenus montrent que le coefficient de diffusion de Li est 100 fois plus fort dans l'alliage amorphe que dans l'alliage cristallin a la meme temperature mais n'en reste pas moins d'un ordre de grandeur caracteristique d'une diffusion a l'etat solide
