Inelastic analysis of quenching, welding and continuous casting processes considering metallo-thermo-mechanical coupling

  • 1. Kyoto Univ. (Japan). Dept. of Mechanical Engineering

Description

Materials often exhibit complicated behavior during some engineering processes involving phase changes such as solid-solid transformation in quenching, tempering and other heat treatments of steels, and solid-liquid transformation in welding, casting, continuous casting, and so on. In such cases, temperature field, metallic structures, and elastic, or in many cases, inelastic stress and strain will have an effect on the others, and the interaction is properly termed as 'metallo-thermo-mechanical' coupling. The aim of this paper is to formulate the fundamental relationships governing these three interacting fields, taking into account the effects of the coupling in the framework of 'metallo-thermo-mechanics' and to apply the theory to the simulation of the processes of quenching, welding and continuous casting.
