Natural gas and environment

Currently, natural gas covers almost 20% of Europe's total fuel supply needs. Large resources of this fuel were discovered in a number of European countries and under the North Sea, and this is why natural gas consumption increased during the nineteen seventies and eighties - in addition to the fact of a reliable supply which contributes to a reduction of dependence on oil from the Middle East. During the nineties, interest has been more focussed on the fact that the use of natural gas has environmental advantages compared to other fossil fuels. Papers contributed to the Nordic conference on natural gas and the environment mainly concern the subject of how environmental demands and environmental technology will influence the the energy market of the future.
