Speciation of Pu(VII) in basic aqueous solutions
Creators
Description
A quantum-chemical calculation of the crystal field for PuO4(OH)23- gives good agreement of the experimental and calculated energy levels of the 5f-electron in this complex. This indicates that it is probably present in basic solutions. Increasing the base concentration changes the overall shape of the electronic absorption spectra. This is consistent with a probable change of Pu speciation. It is likely that not only PuO4(OH)23- but also PuO5OH4- or PuO65- exist in concentrated bases
