Progress with Sizewell 'B'

Recent developments in the long-delayed construction of Sizewell ''B'' Reactor are described in this article. The decision on whether to build three more replica Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) power stations has been deferred until the Sizewell Project can be assessed finally. The station design, based on the Westinghouse 4-loop PWR, is explained. Progress on the project to date and future goals are described. The article ends with a cost analysis of nuclear power versus fossil fuel generation and also considers which type of reactor may prove most economic. (UK)
