Nuclear energy in Great Britain

Description
Great Britain is one of the pioneers in the peaceful utilisation of nuclear energy. After a year of stagnation the Thatcher government has announced a large programme of new construction which no longer excludes the restriction of Great Britain to the light-water reactor. The author, the Chairman of the Electricity Council for England and Wales, explains how this result was achieved, and emphasizes the importance which Great Britain attaches to the development of fast breeder reactors and the relevant fuel cycle. Grossbritannien gehoert zu den Pionieren der friedlichen Kernenergienutzung. Nach jahrelanger Stagnation hat die Regierung Thatcher jetzt ein groesseres Neubauprogramm verkuendet, das die Moeglichkeit des Einschraenkens Grossbritanniens auf den Leichtwasserreaktor nicht mehr ausschliesst. Der Verfasser, Vorsitzender des Elektrizitaetsrates fuer England und Wales, erlaeutert, wie es zu dieser Entwicklung kam und betont die Bedeutung, die Grossbritannien der Entwicklung Schneller Brutreaktoren und des dazugehoerigen Brennstoffkreislaufes beimisst.
