Directional correlations of γ-rays from 56Fe,64Cu and single particle effects in neutron capture γ-rays

  • 1. James Cook Univ. of North Queensland, Townsville (Australia). Dept. of Physics

Description

After a review of γ-γ directional correlation theory and a description of the apparatus that was built for these measurements, a detailed account is given of directional correlation measurements of γ-ray cascades emitted by the nuclides 64Cu and 57Fe after the capture of thermal neutrons in 63Cu and 56Fe, respectively. From the results of these measurements spin assignments to low lying states and multipole mixing ratios of secondary γ-ray are dervied and discussed in terms of nuclear theory. Single particle effects manifest in neutron capture γ-rays are discussed. (author)
