Description

With the great technological advances of alumina, this study aimed to synthesize the α-alumina and chemical activation using microwave energy from aluminum nitrate precursor. The synthesized powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis (DTA and TGA) and surface area by BET. The chemical activation process was conducted by varying the concentration of the acid solution and exposure time of the material solution. The results proved the effectiveness of chemical activation by accelerating the synthesis process. The results of thermal analysis can observe the thermal decomposition temperature and the possible nucleation of new phases of alumina. The results of X-ray diffraction showed that the powders have the structure of α-alumina with specific areas ranging from 3 to 15m2/g pore diameters between 190 to 485nm. (author)
