Low temperature treatment of magnetically soft cobalt base alloy

Description

A study was made into effect of holding at nitrogen temperature (-196 deg C) for 10, 60, 120 min on chemical composition of surface layers and properties of amorphous magnetically soft alloy Co57Ni10Fe5B17. It was revealed that a low temperature effect promotes surface enrichment with nonmetallic elements. The most sharp change is observed at a 30 min exposure. The processes observed are explained by a temperature induced compression wave which results in structural transformations similar to structural relaxation below crystallization temperature. As it takes place, corrosion resistance and strength properties of the alloy improve at coercive force preserved. 4 refs.; 4 figs
