Description

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is currently pursuing two related rulemaking activities in the areas of reactor site criteria and plant performance for severe accidents. One objective of these rulemakings is to improve the regulations for future plants by decoupling the acceptance criteria for a reactor site from the acceptance criteria for the design of various engineering safety features. In addition, these rulemaking activities will reflect the extensive research over the past two decades regarding severe accidents, including the updated knowledge of accident source terms
