Description

The limits of detection of 18 trace elements in blood, urine and biological standards (from the International Atomic Energy Agency and the National Bureau of Standards) analysed by neutron activation followed by X-ray spectrometry and magnetic deflection were calculated. In addition to the usual parameters that affect the limits of detection obtainable by X-ray spectrometry, the influence of the spectral interference (background) resulting from the complex matrices was also taken into account. The method is especially suitable for elements which, after neutron activation, emit X-rays with energies below 16 keV. (author)
