A study of internal dosimetry of Am-241 and Sr-90 by dismantling of a nuclear installation

  • 1. Forschungszentrum Juelich GmbH (Germany). Geschaeftsbereich Sicherheit und Strahlenschutz

Description

During dismantling operation in former nuclear facility routine incorporation monitoring had been part of the safety measures. For an occupational radiation worker positive measurements results for 241Am, 90Sr and 137Cs were obtained after the end of the working period. Follow up monitoring had been performed assessing urine and faeces samples for 241Am and 90Sr as well as in-vivo measurements for 137Cs. Ingestion could be proven as incorporation path. The internal dose assessment according to GMBl 2007[1] finally yielded internal dose at 13 μSv.
