Analysis of Oxygen Potentials in MOX and MA-bearing MOX Fuels, and Application to Nuclear Fuel Technologies

  • 1. Japan Atomic Energy Agency (Japan)

Description

The change of local oxygen potential in the pellets was evaluated as a function of O/M ratio. The oxygen potential of (U0.66Pu0.3Am0.016Np0.016)O2-x was 5 – 20 kJ/mol higher than that of (U0.7Pu0.3)O2-x. It was expected that Cs2MoO4 was formed at pellet periphery of (U0.7Pu0.3)O1.98 and (U0.66Pu0.3Am0.016Np0.016)O1.976. Thickness of oxide layer was predicted. It was expected that the effect of MA addition on the cladding inner oxidation was little. The fuel pins of MA-MOX and MOX were planned to be irradiated to 100 GWd/t in the fast reactor JOYO. Effect of oxygen potential change on the irradiation behavior will be re-evaluated by using data of post-irradiation examination
