Description
This paper presents the results of a control study conducted in an aquarium containing the radioactive effluent, where fishes were reared to obtain data on uptake of 3H, 134Cs, 137Cs and 60Co by fishes. The concentrations of studied radionuclides were ascertained by replicate analysis of effluent water in the experimental aquarium. The fishes were periodically sampled from the aquarium and analysed by high resolution gamma spectrometry to evaluate 134Cs, 137Cs and 60Co. Tissue free tritium (TFT) and organically bound tritium (OBT) contents were estimated using packard 3170 liquid scintillation counter. The study was continued for a period of seven months to assess the equilibrium between effluent water and fishes. At equilibrium conditions the water to fish transfer factors for OBT, 137Cs, 134Cs and 60Co were found to be 0.02, 177, 143 and 18 respectively. (author)
