Magnetism in polymerized fullerenes

Creators

Description

Polymerization of C60 fullerenes at certain pressure and temperature conditions, as well as photopolymerization in the presence of oxygen leads to appearance of magnetically ordered phases. Ferromagnetic behavior is observed close to the conditions where the fullerene cages are about to be destroyed, and the effect is presumably associated with the defects in intramolecular or intermolecular bonding. The observation of magnetic domain structure in impurity-free regions provides strong evidence in favor of the intrinsic nature of fullerene ferromagnetism
