Ion source with the gas pulse outlet

Description

In order to reduce the hydrogen flow in the high-vacuum volume of the foreinjector of the 1-2 linear accelerator, a modernization of the ion source (IS) with a copper cathode has been made. In the IS, a pulse valve has been included to close the aperture in the anode in intervals between ion current pulses. The gas flow rate in the source decreases approximately 200 times than in operation without the valve, and the phase density of the beam at the output of the foreinjector increases more than 1.5 times. The interruption of the gas flow at the output of the ion source makes the gas flow-rate independent of the diameter of an emission channel
