Historical and future aspects of X-ray application in medical science
Description
A discovery of X-rays announced in January 1896 is a milestone in medical science, which has led to the establishment of radiological medicine. The purpose of this paper is to revisit the use of X-rays in diagnosis and treatment, and medical application of radioisotopes that was triggered by Roentgen's discovery. Radiological diagnosis and treatment are briefly mentioned in the context of articles published by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen. A chronological table is presented, overviewing the historical radiological medicine, including physics and chemistry, radiation source and dosimetry, X-rays used in diagnosis, isotope diagnosis, and radiation therapy, during one century after the announcement in January 1896 of Roentgen's discovery.
