High resolution and structure of the dislocation core
Description
Models based on elastic continum theory or solids state physics are used to describe defects in crystals. But their applications are often restricted. It is of great interest to obtain some direct information about the real structure of defects such as dislocations. Diffuse scattering of X rays, neutrons and elecrons is often used. High resolution electron microscopy gives an image of the atomic columns around the dislocation core. Structural information can be deduced from carefull image interpretation

Des modeles bases sur la theorie elastique ou sur la physique du solide ont ete utilises pour decrire les defauts dans les cristaux. Mais leurs applications sont souvent restrictives. Il est d'un grand interet d'obtenir des informations directes sur la structure reelle des defauts tels que les dislocations. La diffusion diffuse des rayons X, des neutrons et electrons est souvent utilisee. La microscopie electronique a haute resolution donne une image des colonnes atomiques autour du coeur des dislocations.
