Contamination of fish in Austria after the Chernobyl accident
Creators
- 1. Bundesanstalt fuer Lebensmittelkontrolle und -forschung, Vienna (Austria)
Description
Since it is well known that certain fish species can accumulate radionuclides, in particular radiocesium, a surveillance program was started after the contamination of Austrian territory by fallout from the Chernobyl accident. The number of samples available was rather small, but it was found that contamination of fish dependend upon the extent of local contamination, species of fish and type of lake. The results of the surveillance are discussed. Some remarks will be made on attempts to derive a single transfer factor for 'fish'. (orig.)
