Forecast of waste management requirements of small modular reactor cores using a MCNP 6.2 modelized SLOWPOKE-2 low enriched uranium core at decommissioning: on small modular reactor spent fuel waste management in Canada's Deep Geological Repository context

  • 1. Royal Military College of Canada, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Kingston, Ontario (Canada)

Description

In September 2021, RMC's SLOWPOKE-2 reactor was refuelled after 36 years of operation. The former core is currently being decommissioned. With these new data, we aim to use a MCNP 6.2 model to extrapolate the SLOWPOKE-2 core as an analogue of a future SMR. The overall goal is to provide policy and regulatory recommendations on the decommissioning of SMRs and waste management protocols for NWMO's Adaptive Phased Management construct. (author)
