Turbulent regime of the D region during the winter of 1983-1984

  • 1. Gidrometeorologicheskaya Sluzhba, Moscow (USSR)

Description

The results of 52 measurements of the turbulent energy dissipation rate at the 75 km height in the Earth atmosphere in the 103 m scale range carried out by the radar method at the Volgograd and Heis stations are presented. The data are compared with the global weather conditions, vertical temperature distribution, variations in radiowave absorption in the D region. The experimental data array obtained at high and mean latitudes by the unified method shows the interrelation between turbulent processes in a large height and spatial scale range and their relation with the global weather conditions. The results of simultaneous with turbulence measurements of radiowave absorption do not contradict the concept of the turbulence effect on ionization in the D region in winter periods
