Residual stress measurement by neutron diffraction in AA6082 extruded samples submitted to different quenching rates

Description

Residual strain measurements by neutron diffraction have been performed at HMI, Berlin, considering two AA6082 extruded samples submitted to different quenching rates and to the same ageing treatment. Residual stresses (RS) along the axial, radial and hoop direction at each considered point have been determined as a function of the position inside the specimen. The sample submitted to high quenching rate shows higher values of stresses, particularly near the external surface as a result of quench sensitiveness effect. Similar outlines of the radial and hoop stresses, and the highest values of axial ones are shown, comparing both samples, as correlated results with the extrusion process direction
