Methods of radiographic test for aluminium tee fillet welds

The standard LWS N 7703 (1977) is given. This standard consists of the general rule, the method of radiography, the recording of discriminations and the indication marks. This standard specifies the method of radiographic test for tee fillet welds of aluminum and aluminum alloys. The general items of the radiographic test must be pursuant to JIS Z 3105 (methods of radiographic test and classification of radiographs for aluminum welds). The penetrometer specified in LWS N 7601 (penetrometer for light metals) must be used. In the case of radiography of welds, 20 mm or less in thickness of the welded materials, a gradation meter of type D specified in JIS Z 3105 must be used as a rule. A wedge which can accomodate the welds is used, as a rule, in order to reduce the thickness variation when radiographying. An uniform radiation absorbent may be used in lieu of the wedge. The distance L1 between a radiation source and a pentometer must be m times or more the distance L2 between the penetrometer and a film and must be twice or more the effective length L3 of the welds, or otherwise must be based on given equations. The penetrometer discrimination in the radiograph must be the given values. The concentration of the radiographs other than defects of the welds must be in a given range. In the radiograph which used the gradation meter, the concentration of measured places of the gradation meter must be the given values. (Iwakiri, K.)
