radiochemical studies on separation of yttrium-90 from strontium-90
Description
according to the great importance of 90Y in medical application fields, many generator systems have been established to obtain 90Y in very pure state suitable for medical uses . in the present thesis, evaluation of both dowex 50-X 8 and the synthesized Zr Sb for separation of 90Y from 90Sr to produce 90Sr-90Y generators. 90Y has been produced by the decay of 90Sr(28 Y) fission product or irradiation of yttrium oxide in the reactor . A generator from dowex 50-X 8 was constructed after studying effect of different eluate solutions and c hosing the suitable eluent at suitable ph value and concentration . chemical, radiochemical and radionuclidic purity were investigated. the resulting data proved that the 90 Y solution is suitable for medical purposes. zirconium antimonite has been prepared by varying Zr:Sb molar ratio, the ph of the reaction mixture, the digesting time, the drying temperature of the precipitate and the adsorption reaction temperature . these parameters were investigated in order to optimize the conditions for preparing Zr Sb, which give high separation factor of 90Y from 90Sr by using different eluent, then the best prepared gel was characterized by X-ray, IR, thermal analysis, stability and surface area. I M HNO3 has been chosen as eluent of 90Y which gives high 90Y yield, chemical, radiochemical and radionuclidic purity which agree with the standard values for medical applications
