Contribution of physical modelling to engineering models of the radiation belts

  • 1. Office National d'Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales (ONERA/DESP), 31 - Toulouse (France)

Description

Salammbo is a set of codes, devoted to the understanding of the radiation belt dynamics, particularly during magnetic active periods. Different version of this code were designed, in order to see behaviors of the radiation belts at different time scales, all solve the classical Fokker-Planck diffusion equation, either for proton or electron radiation belts, in the 3-dimension phase space. In this article a general presentation of the Salammbo-3D physical models is made, these models are well suited for long term (preparation of missions) as well as for storm effect application (anomaly diagnosis)
