Compensating hadron calorimeters with scintillator readout

Creators

Description

We review some recent work in the field of compensating sampling calorimeters with scintillator readout, concerning in particular the importance of the thickness ratio in e/h and the importance of sampling fluctuations in the energy resolution. The so called 'spaghetti' calorimeter is discussed in the light of these results. A description of the ZEUS calorimeter, presently under construction, follows with remarks on the importance of calibration and uniformity. Finally a recent study on radiation damage of optical components is presented. (orig.)
