Method for isotope separation
Description
A method of separation of magnesium and calcium isotopes by chemical exchange between magnesium and calcium amalgam and solution of magnesium and calcium iodide in dimethylformamide in two counterflow packed columns at the temperatures of 16-20 and 120-130 deg respectively has been suggested. The process is based on the inversion of separation coefficient (SC) between magnesium and calcium in the reaction mentioned; at room temperature SC is 12-13, at 120-130 deg - 0.6-0.7. The method permits to realize continuous waste-free and simultaneous separation of magnesium and calcium isotopes. 1 fig
