Description

ESR of Mn2+ (S = 5/2) in the ferroelectric LiNbO3 single crystal doped with 0.01 wt% of Mn, grown by the Czochralski method, has been investigated by employing an X-band spectrometer. The rotation patterns of the resonance feilds in the range of 0.0 to 0.8 T in the two mutually perpendicular principal planes were measured at room temperature and found to be axilly symmetric about the c-axis. Temperature dependence of parameters in spin Hamiltonian is also examined in the temperature range from 90 K to 540 K. As the temperature is increased, the value of B20 is found to be decreased. This temperature dependence of B20 value and the reported temperature dependence of e2qQ/h of 93Nb support the model that the Mn2+ ions substitute for Nb in the crystal. (Author)
