Description

An isotope dilution method has been used to study the kinetics of the corrosion of OL-32 carbon steel under the influence of hydrochloric acid (0.5 N) in the presence of various mixtures of water with organic solvents. The effect of the reagent (water/organic solvent) on the velocity constant has been studied. In a given system this constant increases with increasing water concentration. This leads to the conclusion that the organic solvent has an inhibiting effect on the corrosive action of hydrochloric acid. sup(55+59)Fe was used as a radioactive tracer (10-3 M FeCl3 with 2 . 10-6 Ci/ml).
