Clinical study of surgical therapy combined with radioimmunochemotherapy for patients with esophageal cancer

  • 1. Hiroshima Univ. (Japan). Research Inst. for Nuclear Medicine and Biology

Description

Fifty-five patients with esophageal cancer (Group A) received one-stage radical surgery alone or in combination with irradiation and 65 (Group B) received bypass surgery alone or in combination with irradiation. In both Groups A and B, there was no definitive difference in backgroud factors between the irradiated and non-irradiated pts. In Group A, cumulative survival rate tended to be higher for non-irradiated pts than for irradiated pts: 3-year, 4-year, and 5-year survival rates were 40 %, 40 %, and 40 %, respectively for non-irradiated pts; 27 %, 27 %, and 27 %, respectively for irradiated pts. In Group B, 3-month, 6-month, 9-month, and 12-month survival rates were 44 %, 33 %, 7 %, and 0 %, respectively for non-irradiated pts; 70 %, 50 %, 31 %, and 18 %, respectively for irradiated pts. This was contrary to that in Group A. (J.P.N.)
