Pulsed electron accelerator with big cross section beam extraction into atmosphere

Description
The design features and results of investigation into the characteristics of electron pulse accelerator with a simple flat triode electron-optical system are considered. At accelerating voltage, Vsub(acc)=240 kV, pulse duration of 40 mcs, the current behind the foil at a distance of 25 mm is 8 A, with the beam current density being equal to 5 mA/cm2. At the Vsub(acc)=250 kV the current density behind the foil reaches 8 mA/cm2. The beam cross section is 20x80 cm2. The uniform distribution of the electron beam current density in the grid plane is attained owing to coordination of electron fluxes from separate emitters, optimal arrangement of the flat forming screen, emitters and grid elements in the accelerator. Taking into account additional electron scattering due to the grid lens effect, that occurs at the beam passage through the outlet port foil, the beam current density nonuniformity over 90% of area, as measured at 25 mm distance from the foil, does not exceed 10%
