On a theory of interaction between magnetic charge and material medium
Description
It is shown that the interaction between a moving monopole and atoms lying along its trajectory leads to renormalization of the effective charge of the monopole which defines the field at a distance from the trajectory. It is precisely this phenomenon which is the physical cause of the difference between the true response functions in monopole electrodynamics and ε(ω) and μ(ω). A model medium consisting of rarefied quantum oscillations is considered in which renormalization changes the magnetic charge μ(ω) times. This leads, in particular, to an additional factor μ2(ω) in the formula for the intensity of the Vavilov-Cherenkov radiation. A general estimate of the correction to the monopole charge is presented. It shows that the renormalization is due mainly to diamagnetic effects
