USI A-46 outlier resolution methodology

Description

The USI A-46 program has been initiated at the majority of the utilities operating older nuclear power plants within the US. All but one of these utilities has chosen to utilize methodology developed by tile Seismic Qualification Utility Group (SQUG) for their A-46 resolution programs. This methodology has been defined in considerable detail by a series of SQUG and Electric Power Research Institute reference reports. One week training sessions funded by SQUG are also being offered to ensure the SQUG methodology is adequately disseminated. The most significant programmatic and technical hurdle still remaining on the USI A-46 effort is the resolution of components that fall outside of the SQUG screening rules, which are defined as outliers. This paper addresses the concept of an outlier and recommends resolution techniques for many of the most common outliers which are expected to result from these current A-46 reviews
