Complementarity of charged-particle and (n,#betta#) reactions

Combining (n,#betta#) measurements with charged-particle transfer reaction studies has frequently been an excellent tool for obtaining complete studies of nuclear excitations. Several examples are given: two-neutron transfer and (n, #betta#) reactions into 196Pt and 168Er where the Interacting Boson Approximation Model has been applied; charged-particle and (n,#betta#) reactions in transitional nuclei where fragmentation of single-particle strength occurs; charged-particle transfer in Os-Ir-Pt nuclei as tests of supersymmetries.
