Description
The construction of the first repository in Brazil, located in Abadia de Goias -Goiania was concluded in 1997, May, with the purpose of containing definitively the waste of the accident with 137Cs in Goiania. The installation was designed to accommodate 3.500 m3 of radioactive wastes; approximately 6.000 tons in a solid form. Since the government of Goias recognized that should be found a site to store permanently the waste, it was accomplished a licensing process to deposit in a safe way all the wastes generated after the accident in compliance with the requirements established by the national authorities involved.
