The effect of the addition of methylbutene in the gaseous radiolysis of isobutane, propane and hydrogen
Description
In the γ-radiolysis of isobutane and propane, various amounts of methylbutene (MB) were added. In these systems an attempt has been made to determine the total relative rate constants of reactions between s-C3H7+ ions and 3-methyl-1-butene (M3B1), 2-methyl-2-butene (M2B2) and 2-methyl-1-butene (M2B1), and between C2H5+ ions and M3B1. Proton transfer reactions are not observed between s-C3H7+ ions and M3B1. This proton transfer seems efficient in the other systems. In the radiolysis of hydrogen in the presence of M3B1 the formation of ethylene, propene and propane is observed. These products are probably formed through the decomposition of excited C5H11+ ions formed by proton transfer reactions between H3+ and M3B1. (author)
