The MOX and URE fuels with recycled nuclear materials

Description
The recycling in the French 900 MWe PWR of uranium and plutonium from the reprocessing of irradiated fuel was decided in the middle of the 1980's. The first MOX (mixed uranium and plutonium oxide) and URE (enriched uranium from reprocessing) fuel assemblies were built in 1987 and delivered to some French, Belgian and German reactors for testing. This paper describes the behaviour, reliability and performances of the different successive fuel assemblies including MOX and URE fuels that were tested in these reactors for a comparison with the UO2 assemblies. A statement of these irradiation experiments and the future evolution of the MOX and URE fuels are given. (J.S.). 2 tabs., 1 photo
