Radiation induced changes in some free amino compounds in brain of female rats exposed to different levels of gamma radiation
Description
The changes in some free compounds in the brain of whole-body irradiated rats subjected to three gamma radiation levels, 2, 4 and 5 gray(Gy) have been estimated on the first, third, seventh and fourteenth days after irradiation. The total content of free non migrating amino acids in the brain tissue significantly decreased on the third day after all the applied radiation doses and significantly increased after the higher radiation dose 5 Gy on the fourteenth day post irradiation. The content of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) significantly increased on the first day post-irradiation with the dose 2 Gy, but the radiation dose 4 Gy caused significant increase on the first, seventh and fourteenth days post-irradiation, while the higher radiation dose, 5 Gy, significantly increased the concentration of GABA at all the experimental times. The content of free glucosamine in brain tissue significantly decreased on the third day after radiation exposure with 2 Gy. The higher radiation doses, 4 and 5 Gy, caused decreases in the level of this amino sugar on the first and third days post irradiation, but its level significantly increased in the seventh and fourteenth days post-irradiation. The results are discussed according to the available literature
