Description

Purification of solvent used in extraction of uranium and plutonium from fission products is quintessential for a nuclear fuel reprocessing plant from economic as well as nuclear safety point of view. Distillation is the most commonly employed method for purification. In order to design a distillation column, vapor liquid equilibrium data at different pressures are required. Experiments were conducted for TBP-NPH system at 2.4 torr and 5 torr and experimental data were plotted on bubble point and dew point curves generated by using Wilson model. The experimental results are in good agreement with the calculated ones. (author)
