Description

Dynamic development of peritoneal dialysis (PD) and necessity of systematic monitoring of peritoneal kinetic parameters in long-term CAPD patients are the reason for investigation of new and save, intraperitoneal volume markers. One of these markers can be 99mTc-HSA. The necessary condition of its applicability for kinetic studies in PD is the stability of the complex in dialysis fluid during the 4-hrs CAPD exchange. The aim of the present investigation was the evaluation of the 99mTc-HSA stability in standard dialysis fluid in different dilutions. The stability was assessed using paper and column radiochromatography. Our results indicate that incubation of the complex for up to 3 hrs in the dialysis fluid at 1:1 ratio did not affect its stability (1.54% of the free 99mTcO4- ion) while similar incubation at 1:10 ratio led to a decay of the complex (20% of the free 99mTcO4- ion). It is concluded that the 99mTc-HSA complex can be a useful marker for the assessment of intraperitoneal volume of dialysing fluid but its application for examination of the transport parameters during peritoneal dialysis is controversial.
