Radioactive waste and decommissioning - neither the Achilles' heel nor the Augean stables!
Description
It is a widely held belief that waste management and decommissioning are the Achilles' heel of the nuclear industry. This paper shows that, far from having a huge labour in prospect, the nuclear industry is very waste-efficient. Indeed it is the only major electrical power source to dare to pick up the environmental cost of its operation. The current approach to radioactive waste management and decommissioning in the UK is explained and related to international experience. (author)
